Looking to incorporate more local ingredients in your brews? All of our barley is sustainably grown in Pennsylvania’s beautiful Westmoreland County, at the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains. Nurtured by rich soil and abundant rainfall and benefitted by perfect growing seasons, our barley is custom malted in Butler County and crafted in small batches designed for unique flavor profiles:
Latrobe – Two Row Golden in color with a traditional flavor.
Pilsner – Clean and crisp – our lightest malt.
Vienna – Elegant and fragrant with a distinct European feel.
Munich – Rich, robust and full-flavored.
Custom – Brewmeister’s choice! Work with our maltster to produce your desired flavor.

Jack Barsoumian, armed with extensive knowledge in cell molecular biology as well as a penchant for sublime flavor, along with his wife Maral, a marketing guru, teamed up with his brother Ara Barsoumian, a chemical engineer and an expert in process manufacturing, as well as his wife Hasmig to form the company in its earliest of days.
With a single item in their repertoire, an ages-old recipe for a European-style almond-pistachio truffle, the four of them set up shop in a non-descript industrial section of Chatsworth, California to realize their dream. Without knowing the difficulties and challenges which laid in their way, they forged ahead with remarkable resolve and a tireless work ethic which is not only still evident today, but permeates a large portion of employment at Amoretti: unshakable optimism, spirited work ethic, and an excitement for what lies ahead.
Established in 1996, The Brewing Science Institute (BSI) mission is to help professional brewers achieve optimal brewing results. BSI is all about two key factors; custom cell count and fresh yeast grown just for you. This flexibility allows us to target any pitch rate you want by adjusting the number of pitchable units you get! Most strains ship within 7 days, but now enjoy our industry-favorite express yeast strains, shipped the next business day. We also have a dedicated Technical Support staff to help you plan your next fermentation or to troubleshoot unforeseen challenges. As of 2023, BSI is a 100% employee-owned business.
Creating the world’s finest malts takes time—about 140 years, in our case. The Briess malting tradition began in 1876 when Ignatius Briess started malting barley in the fertile Moravian valleys of Czechoslovakia.
