Brewers of Pennsylvania Celebrates Small Brewery Sunday

New Holiday Supports Small and Independent Breweries

On Sunday, December 1, 2019, the Brewers of Pennsylvania (BOP), the state’s official brewers guild, will be celebrating Small Brewery Sunday, a new holiday that encourages beer lovers throughout the country to support small U.S. breweries and to seek the independent craft brewer seal, a certified mark (upside-down beer bottle) that identifies beer brewed by independent brewers.

The Brewers Association (BA), the not-for-profit trade association dedicated to small and independent brewers, created the inaugural event that will take place every year on the Sunday following Thanksgiving. The BOP is a proud member of the Brewers Association.

The new holiday is designed to support the more than 7,500 local craft brewers across the country. A strong, influential brewers guild, the BOP has 236 brewery and over 100 allied members spread throughout the beer-friendly Commonwealth.

“The BOP encourages all craft beer fans, fellow Pennsylvanians and those visiting for the holidays, to go out on Small Brewery Sunday, and visit their favorite craft brewery, as well as take a short trip to other great PA breweries who may be on their bucket lists,” said Adam Harris, Deputy Director of the BOP. “Using the BOP’s Digital Trail App will allow consumers to easily determine where their next pint will be. Pennsylvania ranks as the number-one state in the production of barrels of craft beer per year. Our independent brewers rely on strong community support, and Small Brewery Sunday is a perfect opportunity to get out with friends, celebrate the holidays, and lend a hand to local businesses.”

Consumers and BOP members can further add their support to Small Brewery Sunday by using the hashtags #SmallBrewerySunday and #SeekTheSeal.

The craft beer industry in Pennsylvania (#supportPAbeer) injects $5.78 billion into the state’s economy while supplying more than 10,000 jobs, which generates $2.2 billion in wages and benefits annually.

The BOP strongly encourages responsible drinking.
