Meeting of the Malts III: The Pittsburgh Brewers Summit

unite in a dinner and panel discussion on the future of Pennsylvania Craft Beer.

(HARRISBURG PA)  The Brewers of Pennsylvania announced they will be hosting the Meeting of the Malts III: The Pittsburgh Brewers Summit on Thursday, January 22, 2015.

The one-night event, hosted at the famed Priory Hotel in the heart of downtown Pittsburgh, will feature beer sampling, a delicious five-course beer pairing dinner, silent auction and a panel discussion between the founders of Victory Brewing Company, Troegs Brewing Company and Pittsburgh’s own East End Brewing, three of the most innovative brewers in craft beer today. The Meeting of the Malts III is an opportunity for attendees to meet fellow beer lovers and hear about the future of craft beer in Pennsylvania. The event is has been sponsored by Pittsburgh-based businesses PFE Corporation: Fire & Safety Specialists and Vecenie Distributing Company.

“This is a great opportunity to spend an evening with three of the country’s most well-known and creative brewers,” said Artie Tafoya, Brewers of Pennsylvania Board Member and Event Coordinator. “These are some of the most creative minds in craft beer and we are proud to bring them together in a single evening so that Pittsburgh beer lovers can enjoy some great food and better beer, all while learning about why the foam continues to rise in Pennsylvania.”

On January 22, the Meeting of the Malts III will kick off at 5:00 p.m. and include the opportunity to sample unique, small batch beers before and after dinner. The main event, a beer dinner and panel discussion, will be moderated by Pittsburgh Post Gazette Food Editor and Craft Beer Enthusiast Bob Batz Jr. Bob has been writing about craft beer since it was called microbrew and has been a part of craft beer’s two-decades rise in Pittsburgh. IN addition to his work with the Post-Gazette, he is vice president of the Association of Food Journalists and a proud member of the North American Guild of Beer Writers.

Beer lovers who wish to participate in all three events are able to purchase VIP tickets for $95.00 per person or purchase tickets for individual sessions.  All proceeds from the event will go to the Brewers of Pennsylvania, the trade association that was founded in 2011 to promote and protect the interests of brewers and beer drinkers in the Commonwealth.

  • 5:00 – 6:30 p.m.: Founder and President of Victory Brewing Company, Bill Covaleski, will host the Victory Pre-Summit Party in the Refectory located at The Priory Hotel. Attendees can expect light appetizers and Victory brews, (Tickets for just this portion are $20.00 per person.)
  • 7:00 – 9:00 p.m.: The main event – a five-course beer pairing dinner – will take place in the Priory Hotel’s Grand Ballroom featuring brews from Victory, Troegs and East End Brewing Co. Victory Owner and Brewmaster Bill Covaleski, Troegs Founder and Brew Brother Chris Trogner and East End Brewing’s founder Scott Smith will participate in a panel discussion on the future of Pennsylvania Craft Beer, moderated by Bob Batz Jr. One-of-kind brewery memorabilia will also be available through a silent auction during the dinner event. (Tickets for just this portion are $60.00 per person.)
  • 9:30 – 11:00 p.m.: Founder and Vice President of Troegs Brewing Company, Chris Trogner, will host the Troegs Post-Summit Party in the Refectory located at The Priory Hotel. Attendees can expect light appetizers and Troegs brews, (Tickets for just this portion are $20.00 per person.)
